Possidi Lighthouse

An elegant, white lighthouse that saved hundreds of lives, more than you could possibly imagine.

Possidi Lighthouse stands at the start of Possidi Beach. The whitewashed, colonial-style lighthouse is 14.5 metres tall. At its base stands a quaint little house also built in the colonial style, the home of the lighthouse keeper. A small garden and a row of trees complement the buildings, creating a picturesque image and a tranquil atmosphere.

Built in 1864, the lighthouse was once right next to the sea, guiding sailors safely into the harbour. Years of accumulated sand and sedimentation created the sandy cape that is now the Possidi Beach, leaving the lighthouse far inland. Possidi Lighthouse is still functional today but instead of leading ships to the shore, it now provides a spectacular light show for its visitors.
