Halkidiki, Greece
Possidi Beach

Visit the Possidi Beach, which earns a well-deserved European Union (EU) Blue Flag every year, for a restful afternoon along a pristine stripe of white sand and into the crystal-clear waters of the Aegean Sea.

Possidi Beach is a 3.5-kilometre stretch of beach which extends out of Halkidiki like a small tail. With fine, white sand and clear blue waters that sparkle like diamonds, the beach is awarded the EU Blue Flag yearly, a guarantee of its high standard of safety, cleanliness and environmental sustainability.

Closer to the village, the beach is teeming with tourists eating at the restaurants, cafés and seaside bars which line the beach. As you walk further out along the beach, the noise and chatter disappear, leaving only the crashing waves – the heartbeat of the sea. Whether you are looking for a lively afternoon by the sea or a long, contemplative walk accompanied only by nature, Possidi Beach is the place for you.

Tips Before You Go
Before your trip to the Possidi Beach, you could consider a visit to the ruins of ancient Mende which contain the remains of an acropolis, a sanctuary dedicated to Poseidon, the God of the Sea, a fortress and some warehouses. The beach is unprotected from strong coastal winds so remember to bring along extra layers. Towards the end of the beach, do keep a lookout for the Possidi Lighthouse which has been guarding sailors to safety since 1864.
