Porta Ticinese

Come and feel the grandeur of Porta Ticinese.

A former city gate of Milan, the Porta Ticinese derived its name from the Ticino River, which traverses the breath-taking Po Valley. Hugely popular with tourists, Porta Ticinese was part of the 12th century medieval walls of Milan and one of the two remaining medieval gates still standing strong and proud, unfading with the passage of time. Admire its neo-classical style, a masterpiece by Luigi Cagnola that was built between 1801 and 1814. Be astounded by its spectacular pillars and majestic columns, which are topped with an impressive tympanum. A quintessential landmark monument of Milan, do not give the magnificent Porta Ticinese a miss.
