Built sometime around the 1st century B.C, the Porta Borsari is a prominent ancient Roman gate in Verona, formerly known as Porta Jovia. Once a fort with look-out towers, there was an internal courtyard as well. It was also the main gate where taxes were collected when travellers entered or left the city. Admire its beautiful white limestone facade embellished with intricate designs and two imposing arches bordered by elegant columns. If you look closely, you might even spot an inscription meant for Emperor Gallienus, the 41st emperor of the Roman Empire.
