Poklonnaya Hill

“Bow down” to this Russian historic site.

Take a trip back in time, into an era of war and espionage at Poklonnaya Hill. The name Poklonnaya literally means “To bow down” in Russian, and this is extremely fitting, seeing as it continues to inspire a sense of awe in Russia, especially with the spectacular Victory Monument standing at a staggering 142 metres. This towering structure is adorned with highly detailed carvings and statues, symbolising the 1418 dark days of the Great Patriotic War.

Besides the monument, there is also the “Museum of the Great Patriotic War”, which is a military museum opened in 1995. It continues to astound visitors with an outstanding showcase of weapons, military vehicles, preserved documents from the war and many more artefacts. Whether it be day or night, Poklonnaya Hill stands out either way, commanding our respect.

Tips Before You Go
It is recommended that you bring along your jacket when visiting, because the strong winds at Poklonnaya Hill can leave you shivering. You could easily spend a few hours just walking around the entirety of Victory Square without even setting foot into the museum, so be sure to accommodate for that too if your schedule’s a bit tight.
