Pipe Track

A hidden gem packed with unbeatable views.

If you’re looking for great views and a chance to get some exercise, hit the Pipe Track hiking trail during your trip to Cape Town. This hidden gem is one of Table Mountain’s oldest hiking routes. It was first established in 1887 for workers to lay pipelines which you can still see today. A hidden gem that’s not as popular as Platteklip, this trail has arguably the best sights, so you won’t have to jostle for photo space with all the other tourists.

The route is rather easy, mostly flat with just a few gentle slopes. It runs along the Atlantic Coast, offering you views of Lion’s Head and the ocean, and most spectacular of all, the 12 Apostles. You can even start your hike early in the morning and catch the sunrise.

Tips Before You Go
It takes about 3 to 4 hours to hike up and town the mountain, so make sure you bring enough water and a set of warm clothing in case it gets chilly.
