Piona Abbey (Abbazia di Piona)

Serenity in its air and beauty all over its walls, a walk in Piona Abbey will be an unforgettable memory.

Amidst the calm green surroundings on the foot of Mount Legnone is Piona Abbey, otherwise known as the Piona Priory, an old religious complex that still stands tall throughout the test of time. Built in 610 A.D., it is a typical representation of the Como style with square stones and a simple façade. It consists of several different sections like the cloister, the Piona Church and the capitulate room, all of which were used for various activities by monks back in the old days. As you walk along the cloister, you will definitely notice the majestic Lombardo Romanesque style of the building, where you will be taken on a fantastic journey back to medieval times. Complete your visit to the sacred site of Piona Priory by purchasing monastic products such as creams and ointments made from the Earth’s natural riches. Just a visit here is sure to leave you a changed individual.

Tips Before You Go
Get in touch with the abbey for information on group tours, opening hours, sales hours and mass timings. If you are interested in a guided tour, don’t forget to make your reservation a few days in advance. Even though it’s completely free of charge, we suggest that you pay the guide monk an amount that you’re comfortable with as a token of appreciation. If you visit on a Sunday, you may get to witness the monks reciting Gregorian chants during mass. That would be a truly unforgettable experience.
