Pieskowa Skała

Discover the fabulous gems of Pieskowa Skała and more.

Built in the 14th century, the Pieskowa Skała is a prominent cliff-top fortress castle with an impressive Renaissance architecture. Upon entering the majestic Pieskowa Skała, art history lovers will be delighted to explore the three permanent exhibits (Stylistic Shifts in European Art, an exhibit on the castle's history and an English Art Gallery), apart from its fascinating interior. Once outside, admire its elegant arcaded open-air loggia (balcony) which is decorated with sgraffito and the interesting clock face on its tower, or take a leisurely stroll in the enchanting gardens of the Pieskowa Skała and soak in the gorgeous beauty of the Prądnik River Valley. At the base of the majestic Pieskowa Skała, there are two ponds and between them, is a massive grave for 65 insurgents who were killed in cold blood in the January Uprising targeting the Russian Romanov family in 1863. To conclude your visit to the Pieskowa Skała, do not miss the Maczuga Herkulesa (Hercules’ Club), an intriguing rock formation which is not far from the beautiful Pieskowa Skała.
