Naples, Italy
Piazza San Domenico Maggiore

Yet another square, with yet another church with the same name? Well, you’d be surprised to know this particular one stands out.

Piazza San Domenico Maggiore, saying that out is a mouthful. However, this plaza is unique, and well-worth the visit! Not to be confused with the church with the same name, the square is located near the street - Spaccanapoli.

Right at the centre of the square, an obelisk is found. At the top, a statue of the founder of the Dominican Order – Domenico di Guzman is erected. One out of the three “plague towers”, they were erected after the plague that plagued millions, in hopes of bringing good luck from then on. Not forgetting the church, sharing the same name, it shares some of the limelight with the square. The church houses some of the most important possessions belonging to the Dominicans, all in the Sacred Relics Chamber. From clothes belonging to royalty, to drapes and silks, each possession holds significant importance and is extremely precious. Aside from historic monuments, you must wander around the area and try some local delicacies! There are eateries catering for meals at all times of the day. For breakfast or brunch, Scaturchio and Gran Caffè Neapolis are known to be popular! Pizza pies are a must to have here, alongside a warm, comforting cappuccino. Welcoming all to where life begins, this very square delivers.
