Phuket Thaihua Museum

A museum on the early Chinese immigrants in Phuket.

A building dedicated to the Chinese immigrants of the 1800s, the Thaihua Museum is a Sino-Portuguese style building that used to be a former Chinese language school. In 2008, it was awarded by the Siam Architect Association in its role in conserving architectural arts. Architecturally, it has a beautiful inner courtyard that in open-air with a beautiful garden.


You can visit the multiple storeys of the building and view exhibits and tableaux, and learn about the Chinese settlers, mostly families of businessmen and merchants, who first came to Phuket and about Chinese influence in Thailand as a whole. For visitors of Chinese origins, it’s a great afternoon visit, indoors and away from the scorching Thai sun.

Tips Before You Go
The write-ups for the exhibits tend to be in Thai and Chinese, while a few of them have English translations, making it less-than-accessible for everyone. A great quiet afternoon can be spent there, and at the adjoining cafe.
