Phuket Big Buddha

A 45-meter tall white marble Buddha statue in Chalong, Phuket.

The beautiful and revered white marble Buddha can be seen from anywhere in southern Phuket (as far away as Phuket Town and Karon Beach!) and is an important religious monument. Situated on the Nakkerd Hills between Chalong and Kata, the Big Buddha offers a resplendent 360-degree view of Phuket. On clear days, you can see Phang Nga Bay on one side, and Promthep Cape and Nai Harn on the other.

Along the way to the marble Buddha, there are other statues of note, including a smaller golden Buddha (made of brass) and statues of revered Buddhist monks. Before making your way up, you can also visit the temple where one can make donations (the site is funded solely through donations) or offerings to their loved ones, or learn about the history of the site and of Buddhism in Thailand.

Tips Before You Go
As the Big Buddha is a religious monument, make sure you wear clothes that cover your legs and shoulders appropriately when you visit. The best time to visit would be in the morning (rather than making the climb up the stairs in the afternoon sun) as the Buddha faces East, making for the best lighting conditions to take photos.
