Petrohué Waterfalls

So stunning you might not believe your eyes.

Better known as the "Saltos del Petrohué" in Spanish, the Petrohué Waterfalls is a part of the Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park. With the looming snow-topped cone of the Osorno volcano in the background and a thick growth of verdant greenery in between, the waterfall certainly makes an impression. It is unique in its connection with the volcano, for the water is supported by a rockbed of basaltic lava and crashes down a precipice in an awe-inspiring symphony that only nature can orchestrate. In fact, you can see it for yourself because the viewing station gives you the chance to view the falls from just a few meters away!

Be at one with nature as you enjoy a relaxed stroll around the area, all the while admiring the striking green of the water in the lake, like shades of color on an artist’s palette. Hold on, is that a duck you see? Well, it’s not too surprising for you might spot a few torrent ducks (and their fearless chicks in tow) mastering the rapids with impressive skill. Head into the forest area and let the photographer in you take over as you try to capture the animals going about their day, and the delightful variety of flora here.
