Prepare yourself (especially your eyes) for a buffet of art at the Perez Art Museum Miami (PAMM).
Modern and contemporary art from the 20th and 21st century call PAMM home. A place filled with spectacular pieces by equally talented artists, the three-storeyed building itself is designed by equally amazing architects – Herzog and de Meuron. Spanning 200,000 square feet, the Pritzker Prize winners fashioned the museum extraordinarily, using the surrounding area as inspiration.
Built on an elevated platform, under a canopy, the architects took into account how buildings in Florida needed to be built a certain height above sea level. Instead of seeing that as a restriction, a pier was incorporated in the design, looking beautifully over the sea. A staircase as large as the gallery space connects the two different levels. The stairs also serve an alternative purpose, transforming into an auditorium if needed. Housing art from Western Europe, Africa and the Americas, several genres are found here, from Still Life, Landscape and also Portraiture. Works from renowned contemporary artists such as Kiki Smith, José Bedia Valdés and also Purvis Young are featured here. With such a spread, housed in a spectacularly designed building, your eyes will undeniably be in for a treat!
