Peranakan Museum

The only museum in the world showcasing Peranakan culture!

The Peranakan Museum in Singapore is the first in the world that explores and documents the Peranakan culture both locally as well as across Southeast Asia. The sister museum to the Asian Civilisations Museum, the former is located on Armenian Street, one of Singapore’s most historic venues.

Housing a plethora of significant Peranakan artifacts and wares, the highlight of the museum is the Peranakan Wedding Bed, originally belonging to Mrs Quah Hong Chiam of Penang - it is the very bed on which she gave birth to 7 of her 11 children! Featuring 10 permanent galleries displaying the main themes of Peranakan life and culture, this museum provides a uniquely introspective view into the lives of one of the most interesting cultures in Southeast Asia. The galleries display many different craftworks, traditions and performances of the Perankans and other Stratits Settlements in Penang and Malacca, making it a truly unique museum that will wow you with its amazing displays!
