A place of serenity amidst the lively San Telmo neighbourhood.
Once the private gardens of the Lezama family, the sprawling, lavish grounds of the Parque Lezama were restored and remodelled into a public park during the late 1900s, following the death of Lezama in 1894. Today, the park is a favourite amongst the locals as a popular hangout spot, because of its hilly walkways shaded by beautiful rows of tipa and jacaranda trees, as well as the many sculptures that are scattered throughout the park landscape.
On sunny days, sunbathers lounge on the velvety green embankments and families and couples enjoy a leisurely stroll through the green lungs of the San Telmo neighbourhood. Visitors can combine a visit to the park with the Museo Historico Nacional (National History Museum), located on Calle Defensa on the western side of the park, or alternatively, explore the blue domed Russian Orthodox Cathedral of the Most Holy Trinity on the northern side of the Parque Lezama as well.
