A tribute to The Beatles.
A popular local hangout spot and occasional concert venue, the Parque John Lennon spans a whole block delineated by streets 6th to 17th in the Vedado district of Havana, Cuba. A bronze immortalization of the visionary English singer-songwriter John Lennon resides on one of the benches within the park, designated by Fidel Castro himself, who holds John Lennon in high regard as a fellow dreamer and rebel to U.S governance.
An inscription from one of John Lennon’s most iconic songs Imagine lies at the foot of the bench: “Dirás que soy un soñador pero no soy el único”, which translates to the lyric “You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one”. Currently, the statue does not feature the iconic round-lens glasses that serves as John Lennon’s trademark due to previous cases of theft and vandalism. Instead, a security guard plays companion to John Lennon during the day, and purportedly will place the iconic glasses on the statue upon request.
