Pantheon

Of Gods and Kings.

One of the most iconic monuments in the world, the Pantheon sits majestically in the heart of the ancient city of Rome and is a site that visitors often flock to when in Rome. Built in 125 A.D., the Pantheon was once a temple of worship for the ancient Romans but has long since been converted to a church when the Roman Empire was Christianized during the 7th century. Compared to its fellow ancient roman buildings, the Pantheon is well-preserved and it's often said that what visitors see and experience here is as close to what the ancient Romans would have centuries ago.

When visiting the Pantheon, visitors get to marvel first hand at the architectural genius and beauty of this monument. The instant one wanders into the Pantheon, they will gaze up at the Dome. Boasting a size of 142 feet in diameter, the dome found in the Pantheon is bigger than the dome of St. Peter's Basilica. In fact, the Pantheon's great dome was the source of inspiration for the famous Michelangelo. To add to the uniqueness, the dome is not reinforced and ancient brilliance had made this dome to stand the test of time. Perhaps done because they knew visitors centuries into the future would come and marvel at their work. Walking around deeper, tourists can get to see the final resting places of several important Italians such as the famous Raphael and his fiancée. Each of these tombs are beautiful decorated - indeed a fitting place for such figures.
