Panthéon

An odyssey to the French greats.

As a temple of all Gods, the Pantheon stands proudly in the Latin Quarter in Paris. Originally built as a church to St. Genevieve, the Pantheon is now a secular mausoleum, holding the remains of significant French citizens. Inscribed on the entrance: AUX GRANDS HOMMES LA PATRIE RECONNAISSANTE, which means "To Great Men, The Grateful Homeland", symbolises the homage paid to those who have personified France's honor, and her values of justice, tolerance, and humanity. As you stand within the great halls of the Pantheon and amongst the colossal Corinthian columns, you will be in the presence of the French greats - people who dedicated their existence and sacrificed their lives to causes and values we often take for granted today.

Tips Before You Go
What better thing to complement the final resting place of France\'s greats than the panoramic views of the City of Lights (try to spot the Eiffel Tower from afar!). Head up to the top of the Pantheon by climbing the colonnade encircling the dome - you will not be disappointed. Do set aside about an hour of your schedule to allow yourself sufficient time to cover the entire Pantheon. To ensure a memorable experience, you might want to avoid visiting the place between 3 pm and 5 pm, especially on weekends, when the number of visitors usually peaks.
