Panaewa Rainforest Zoo and Gardens

The only naturally occurring rainforest zoo with a small collection of well-kept animals, including several endangered species in the whole of the U.S.

The Pana'ewa Rainforest Zoo and Gardens in Big Island, Hawaii is home to over 80 species of animals, such as American Alligators, Giant Anteaters, Bengal Tigers – both white and orange, and endangered animals such as the Hawaiian owl and Hawaiian Hawk. The gardens are good for a relaxing stroll along the lush green landscape, full of trees such as palm, orchids, bamboo, and bromeliads, among others. There are edible varieties of plants in the Agro-forest. Also, one may catch cute bull frogs sitting on lily pads at the water garden pond with other beautiful mosaic plants and water hyacinths. During summers, the giant Victoria Waterlily blooms to 18-inch, a sight worth capturing on cameras. Visitors typically spend 2 hours in the Pana'ewa Rainforest Zoo and Gardens.
