Palmeraie

A palm oasis outside Marrakesh.

Palmeraie, which means palm grove, is a palm oasis of several hundred thousand palm trees situated just outside of Marrakesh. Situated at the edge of the city’s northern area and spanning approximately 54 square miles, the area is well known for its eponymous palm trees as well as the many resorts it houses, together with other attractions like the Palmeraie Golf Palace and Nikki Beach.

The area was created during the Almoravid period using a khettara network (an irrigation technique considered to be ahead of its time in the twelfth-century). The oasis is now home to an upwards of 10,000 date palms, olive and fruit trees, and the nearby reservoirs and artesian wells supply the irrigation of these trees. This beautiful oasis is certainly worth a visit, with grand views of the oasis available every step of the way. Should you want a more unique experience, hop on over for a camel ride through the oasis, and we assure you that you won’t be disappointed!
