Mike in hand, the lady in blue belts out another soulful note before the saxophone breaks out in a solo. The sounds echo and ring within the tiny theatre and you watch the jazz number with awe not more than a few meters from the stage. At the Palladium Theater’s Side Door Cabaret, an intimate interaction between the performer and the audience is encouraged, the clear melodies communicating whatever needs to be said. The Palladium Theater itself was established by a group of art philanthropists in a bid to make the arts scene of Tampa Bay accessible not just to the upper echelons but everyone. For a reasonably small fee, one can enter the 850 seat Hough Hall to indulge in classical numbers and acts of opera, theater and dance.
