Palazzo Medici Riccardi

Visit the grand Palazzo Medici Riccardi – the first Renaissance architecture in Florence.

As its name suggests, Palazzo Medici Riccardi is a palace that belonged to the Medici family, who commissioned the architect Michelozzo di Bartolomeo to design the majestic building in 1445. Construction took about 10 years to complete and it became the first Renaissance architecture in Florence. Situated on the first floor is the Chapel of the Magi, the highlight of the building which was splendidly frescoed by Benozzo Gozzoli in the 15th century to depict the Procession of the Magi. It is a palace so grand that a dinner between Adolf Hitler and Prime Minister Benito Mussolini was held here in 1938. Allow yourself to discover Italy’s intricate past as you explore other attractions such as Michelozzo’s courtyard, the Moreniana and Riccardiana Libraries and other stimulating exhibits.
