Paris is known for romantic and secret gardens, but there is nothing quite like this.
Built by French architect Jacques Lemercier, the Palais-Royal spans across 20,850 square meters and was formerly known as Palais-Cardinal as it was the residence of Cardinal Richelieu from 1639 until his death in 1642. Situated in the 1st district of Paris opposite the Louvre, it was once a place where royal families were hosted.
Today, this beautiful garden has close to 500 trees including four double rows of lime trees planted in the 1970s, lawns of flowerbeds and a giant fountain in the central garden. You can take a lovely stroll around the quiet and romantic Parisian garden or browse around the 400-year-old long arcades with boutiques like Marc Jacobs and Stella McCartney. The main courtyard sees works of art created in 1986 by artist Daniel Buren, comprising of 260 marble black-and-white striped columns of unequal height; also, known as 'colonnes de Buren'.
