Palais Longchamp

A museum whose grounds have been designed to appear like a mythical castle arising from the waters.

Palais Longchamp's east wing is home to Marseille's museum of fine arts while the west wing houses Marseille's natural history museum. First established to celebrate the creation of Marseille's canal, Palais Longchamp's majestic grounds boasts a serpentine horseshoe entrance where she appears to arise from the water like a mythical castle. This is part of her design, to be centered upon the beautiful, ornate fountain known as chateau d'eau. Intricate sculptures adorn her facade and she lights up spectacularly in the night, a cheeky ode to the treasures she holds within her walls. Palais Longchamp is a museum that is quintessentially French - truly a majestic sight to behold!
