The Palacio de Linares was christened as a Spanish Property of Cultural Interest in 1976. Urban legend has it that the palace is home to the ghosts of the First Marquis de Linares, his son and the poor woman the latter married. Disapproving of his son's love for the woman and in the hope of breaking them apart, the Marquis told his son in a letter that his lover was his half-sister. Heartbroken, the young son vowed to live in chastity, devoting all his energy to building this exquisite palace, which now stands as one of best exemplars of Neo-Baroque design in Spain. The palace now houses Cash de Amèrica, a modern exhibition center that organizes cultural events year-round. Whether the ghosts of the ill-fated lovers roam the halls remain a mystery, the palace is still an unmissable hallmark of Spanish culture and style.
