Palacio de Bellas Artes

Nothing short of a haven for art lovers in Mexico.

On a good day, when the skies look like a perfect blue on canvas, the dome of Palacio de Bellas Artes flows down like molten lava, or beguiling dragon scales. This massive museum is one of the grandest designs in Mexico City and features works just as great at the stunning architecture itself. It was commissioned by Porfirio Díaz, former President of Mexico and construction began at the beginning of the 20th century by an Italian architect. His preference for neoclassical and art nouveau style shines through, carved out in the Carrara marble of the façade, while it is mostly Art Deco inside.

As you walk the glossy path up to the museum, you will see the words “Palacio de Bellas Artes” engraved above intricate sculptures. Head in to discover the main hall, with its adjoining rooms as well as the theatre. This particular theatre features a breathtaking ‘curtain’ made of stained glass pieces that number to almost a million! As you walk, you will definitely find awe-inspiring murals by famous artists like Diego Rivera and David Siqueiros. For you art lovers, this is bound to be a heavenly space where you can appreciate both the fine architectural work and impressive artworks. While you’re in Mexico City, you certainly won’t miss this!
