Palace of the Countess of Lebrija

Discover one of Seville’s little-known gems.

Better known in Spanish as "Palacio de la Condesa de Lebrija", this 16th-century mansion invites you to the abode of the Countess de Lebrija. Her passion for archaeology is evident in the discoveries that you make when you enter the palace with its Renaissance frieze. Its façade is designed in Andalusian style and tempts visitors to step past the arched doorway and gaze at the marvels that the countess gathered from her travels and excavations. Covering 2500 square kilometers across two floors, the palace has one of the most stunning collections of Roman mosaics in not just Spain, but in the region!

Medieval tiles and Roman mosaics spiral in all directions as you enter, in fascinating patterns and colors. The walls are covered with azulejos, a type of Spanish and Portuguese painted tin-glazed ceramic tilework. In simpler terms, a spread of captivating tiles that come together to form beautiful patterns, almost as if they had been painted on the walls. Wander the central courtyard to find the mosaic that illustrates the Greek god, Pan. It's not all about mosaics here - other artifacts like sculptures, columns and Roman busts are just a few of the vast collection housed here. There are even various paintings in different art mediums and a library with an impressive collection that is sure to make a bibliophile swoon. Get ready to be stunned at every turn!
