Built by order of King João V, the magnificent Palace of Mafra covers a colossal area of about 40,000m2. The baroque architecture consists of an overwhelming 1200 rooms, 5000 windows and doors, 156 stairways and 29 courtyards. This immense palace complex houses a Franciscan convent, the Campo Santo, an infirmary, a basilica and even a game reserve for hunting!


Visit the gorgeous library with an amazing collection of 36,000 volumes and see the two carillons with 98 bells. Be captivated by the sight of the 6 beautiful organs of great heritage value at the Basilica.
