Palace of Culture and Science

Explore the fascinating Palace of Culture and Science, or otherwise more affectionately known as the Elephant in Lacy Underwear.

Standing at an impressive height of 231m, the Palace of Culture and Science was a ‘gift from the Soviet people’ and commissioned by Stalin. Constructed using around 40 million bricks and housing an astounding 3,288 rooms, look out for chambers named after famous personalities such as Yuri Gagarin and Marie Curie. Be awe-inspired by the huge brass chandeliers at the lobby, and do keep a look out for the latest events happening at its Congress Hall that has a great seating capacity of 3000.

Visit the Museum of Evolution and Museum of Technology to discover its many treasures. Catch a show at its multiplex cinema furnished with eight screens or see a performance at its four theatres. Do not leave without ascending to the 30th floor and be captivated by the scenic views of Warsaw, which despite years of pervasive Westernisation, still contains traces of communist elements in terms of its physical structures left standing.
