Oslo City Museum

Immerse yourself in Oslo’s past.

Be engrossed in Oslo’s rich history by taking a spin inside the Oslo City Museum. All kinds of artwork can be found here, including paintings and photographs which are used to tell the tale of this fair city. An attempt to engage you in an audio-visual manner is also made, as stories are told via interviews and films too. Learn about interesting fun facts about the city, such as the fact that orange was a particularly popular colour about 200 years ago. Families will especially enjoy banding together and playing on the app, "The City Detective", whereby you not only get a glimpse into Norwegian life in the past, but are also given a quest to complete. While many of the exhibits are in Norwegian, fret not, as there are audio guides available in English as well, among some other languages.

Tips Before You Go
The museum is not open on Mondays, so you should visit on another day instead. If you wish to attend a guided tour, just take note that they are not available all the time. These are only available on weekends and during the summer holiday period. Entrance into the museum is free, but there are some exhibits here that only have Norwegian descriptions. Perhaps you should just wait for a guided tour then.
