Osaka Museum of Housing and Living (大阪くらしの今昔館)

Life-sized recreation of life during Japan’s Edo era.

Located in the north-eastern part of the Kita area, the Osaka Museum of Housing and Living recreates buildings and streets to showcase what life was like in the olden Osaka. Here, visitors can expect an interesting learning experience of the history of Osaka via the interactive exhibits inside the museum. As you walk through the exhibits, you will find yourself standing before an impressive model of the entire city from the Edo period, which is the only one of its kind in Japan. Visitors are welcome to enter the recreated houses to experience the way of life during the Edo period. For more sporting visitors, you can even rent a kimono and stroll down the streets, and truly feel like you time-travelled into Osaka’s past!
