One of Italy’s most spellbinding natural sites has a rather peculiar name: Orrido di Bellano. In the local language, Orrido means “horrid”. Are you starting to wonder why? The water that runs here through the gorge, passes caves where it makes a howling sound. Think back to all the horror movies you’ve watched – the eerie howling sound seems to have come out of at least one of them. The water here has also carved the rocks, with erosion taking place over many years. In fact, the gorge and the natural waterfall are believed to be more than 15 million years old!
