A beautiful pond with an interesting history, found in the city park of Fukuoka.
Located in central Fukuoka, Ohori Park is a registered Place of Scenic Beauty, modelled after West Lake in China. The park’s main attraction is the mesmerising large pond in its centre, making it one of the most beautiful water parks in Japan. Literally translated to ‘moat park’, the pond that sits in the centre used to be part of the moat system to the neighbouring Fukuoka Castle. Today, a concrete walking path encircles the pond, inviting visitors to take a leisurely stroll or to go for a scenic jog along the two-kilometre path. Additionally, visitors can walk out to the three islands in the middle of the pond, which are connected to the mainland by elegant stone bridges. The Ohori Park Japanese Garden is also located within the compound, where visitors must pay a small sum to admire the beautiful landscape and tea houses in the Japanese garden. To those who are art enthusiasts, do drop by The Fukuoka Art Museum which is located next to the pond.
