NYK Hikawa Maru (日本郵船氷川丸)

Sail into an authentic ship experience on the well-preserved, elegant ocean liner.

An ocean liner turned museum, the historically rich NYK Hikawa Maru is anchored at Yamashita Park, allowing visitors to tour the deck and admire the preserved ship. Built as a passenger and cargo ship serving the Japan-Seattle route, the then state-of-the-art liner made her maiden voyage to Seattle in 1930. She was converted into a hospital ship during the Second World War where she heroically ferried about 30,000 wounded soldiers to their Japanese homeland, and was the only Hikawa Maru class ship to have survived the war! Today, the ship sits majestically at the port of Yamashita park, against the beautiful skyline of Minato Mirai. Inside, visitors can view the rooms where the staff worked and slept, the passenger cabins, as well as the engine room. After enjoying the calming sea breeze on the ship’s deck, walk into the ship’s interior and appreciate its elegantly decorated ceilings and stairways!
