The Norwegian Fishing Village Museum is a museum specialising in the history behind the Norwegian fishing trade industry. It is situated in the village of Å in Moskenes municipality in Loften, the northern part of Norway. Established in July 1987 by the Moskenes History and Museum Society, this stunningly preserved fishing village also acts as a vibrant, live musuem to give visitors a glimpse into the village’s past.

The museum has also started receiving public grants since its opening and several buildings within the compound offer a range of exhibitions. The main themes are life in the Lofoten Fishery throughout the past two centuries, however, there is much emphasis at life in the fishing village from 1840 to 1960 especially, as these were the years when the Lofoten Fishery was thriving. Exploring the wooden cabins, cod liver oil factory and boat sheds, amongst other attractions, is sure to invoke a sense of awe in you as you set your gaze upon these sights.

Of course, the local community has embraced the idea of their cultural heritage being put for show for outsiders and have lined up shops for visitors to produce much of their locally-produced wares, including textiles and even fishing equipment. You have to try the cinnamon buns here for they taste amazing! With so much to see and learn, you have to head down to this museum if you ever are in Å!
