A collection of art telling history from a Norwegian and northern perspective.
Situated on Tromso’s oldest street, the Nordnorsk Kunstmuseum, wholly dedicated to Norwegian art, showcases the unique culture and character of Northern Norway through its carefully curated and organised exhibitions. It houses over 2000 artworks by Norwegian artists, ranging from Romantic to Contemporary art, giving voice to the oft-overlooked perspective of the Nordic people.
Tracking the development of Norway’s culture and people, the Nordnorsk Kunstmuseum houses a diverse range of artworks such as beautiful ethnic costumes complete with fur lining and intricate embroidery, traditional tools that were once essential to daily life and vibrant pieces of modern art. It gives particular attention to northern concerns like climate change, subsistence and the fate of the rapidly-disappearing indigenous groups.
