Step into New Amsterdam Theater, a real trooper of a theatre.
One of Broadway’s longest surviving theatres, the shoebox building was constructed at the start of the 20th Century and had the largest seating capacity in New York at its time of completion. Shakespeare’s A Midsummer’s Night Dream was the first production to be featured at this theatre, which has housed many fantastic sets in its accomplished life including Aladdin, Mary Poppins and even a televised Backstreet Boys concert before the turn of the millennium! The building took a hit during the Great Depression and saw many quiet days before it reopened in 1997 after a renovation that took years and millions of dollars. Now that the restored theatre has regained its former charm and grandeur, it is without a doubt a triumph of the modern world, one not to be missed!
