Sajama Province, Bolivia
Nevado Sajama

Bolivia’s highest mountain.

Rising majestically from within Sajama National Park, Nevado Sajama towers at an impressive 6548m in height, and is the highest mountain in Bolivia. The extinct stratovolcano boasts a geographically complex landscape of lava domes and volcanic rock compositions, and is home to a wide variety of indigenous Andean animals such as llamas, vicuñas, alpacas, ñandu or suri (Andean ostriches), and mountain cats (eg. Pumas).

For mountaineers, summitting the Nevado Sajama is a must. The peak boasts stunning panoramas of the surrounding natural landscape, and hot pools are available along the way as a result of the thermal waters that run rich throughout the region. Currently, the easiest of the routes is the SW ridge, which can be completed in 2-3 days if weather conditions are favourable. Remote and ruggedly beautiful, Nevado Sajama is ideal for adventure seekers and sports lovers looking for a secluded and unforgettable experience in Bolivia.
