Where stargazing and a little bit of history collide.
Within the same park complex as the Perdana Botanical Garden, the National Planetarium is a good place to stop by when you’re in the vicinity – especially if you have children in your entourage. Situated on a hill to the east of the Lake Gardens, you definitely cannot miss the building’s striking blue dome rising majestically.
There is an anti-gravity room and a 3D show that will enchant them, and for the rest of the family, it’s worth checking out the space shows and large format films that they screen there at scheduled time during the day. While the planetarium is definitely not as advanced as its counterparts in London and New York, it is still definitely worth a visit. The main hall houses the permanent and interactive exhibitions, with touch-screen computers and hand-on experiments sure to boggle your minds. Among them is the Arianne IV space engine, one of the engines used to launch Malaysia’s first satellite into space. The Space Theatre displays short films on IMAX screens at regular intervals each day, so be sure to catch it! There are bits and pieces of the history of Malaysia’s foray into space exploration scattered around as well, for those interested.
