The National Park Centre in Zernez is built into the late-13th century Planta-Wildenberg castle, designed as a three-storey building that may look brutalist in its architecture, but holds fascinating secrets. For one, the building was created with materials that naturally insulate it and it is heated by wood-chip fire heating and has no air-conditioning, using an earth heat pump instead. This is to stay in tune with the historical aspects of the location as well as a nod to the environmental aspect of the exhibitions. The seemingly-dreary building acts in contrast to the beauty of the ecology and zoology of the National Park.

There is an information centre and shop to plan trips and hikes to the Swiss National Parks, but the building also holds both permanent and temporary exhibitions. The permanent exhibits are over three floors, showing the history, ecology, zoology and geology of the region, making it ideal for both nature and museum lovers!
