Situated in Cau Da, about 5 kilometres from Nha Trang city center, the National Oceanographic museum of Vietnam amazes visitors with its extensive collection of live and preserved marine specimens and exhibits on the local marine ecosystem. This two-storey museum and aquarium showcases a diverse range of marine life such as reef sharks, scorpion fish, lionfish and coral reefs on the ground floor, and displays thousands of preserved specimens and artefacts on the second floor. Rare and unique displays that should not be missed include the impressive skeleton of a humpback whale and the skeleton of a dugong or sea cow.

Exhibits are generally well-labelled in both Vietnamese and English for easy identification and clarification purposes. Visitors can also enjoy themed exhibitions depicting traditional fishing culture in Vietnam, sacred myths and legends, and developments in marine science and technology, such as the short film “From Light to Life” which features algae and phytoplankton.
