A Smithsonian Institution museum established in 2003, the National Museum of African American History and Culture is specially dedicated to the preservation and documentation of the history, life, art and culture of African Americans. The museum provides an insight of an Americans’ life through the lens of African Americans.


There are many exhibits to explore; hence several noteworthy ones include a Southern Railway car from the segregation era, a bible that belonged to Nat Turner, the fedora of Michael Jackson as well as the celebration of the historical 15th Amendment. With a massive collection of around 36,000 items covering a broad spectrum of issues in the domain of family, community, religion, segregation, slavery, civil rights as well as the visual and performing arts, there is bound to be something that will intrigue you.
