Situated right opposite the Sultan’s Palace, the National Museum in Old Muscat would be very easily overshadowed by the grandeur of the palace. However, the museum is outstanding on its own, possessing a life on its own, separate from the palace!

In no way overshadowed by the brilliance of the palace, the National Museum is stunning on its own. The pioneer of incorporating Arabic braille to the museums in Middle East, this is merely the tip of the iceberg. Showcasing integral pieces of Oman’s rich and vibrant heritage, you must look out for the stone flint believed to be at least 2 million years old. A highly interactive experience awaits you here, with large screens showcasing the rich history of Oman, to life-sized replicas of ships and even an educational space designated for children! Permanent exhibitions include the Maritime history of Oman, alongside their currency and of course, what make Oman, Oman – the people through the years. A pioneer in many ways through the extensive exhibits, the National Museum excels in providing the most comprehensive understanding of Oman’s history. Truly a place where children and people of all ages, all nationalities can spend hours and hours just exploring.
