National Library of Malta

A bibliotheca lined up with rare bound books, newspapers, historical documents, and old manuscripts, the architecture of which, had been commissioned by the Knights of Malta before fleeing.

The National Library of Malta is a reference library founded by Emmanuel de Rohan-Polduc who was the Grand master of the order of St. John, Jerusalem, a knights’ organisation going back to the First Crusade. Outwardly, this neoclassical library attracts a tourist’s attention through its beautiful architecture, coupled with a fine monument of Queen Victoria built in marble that stands outside. However, the library’s main treasures lie inside its many shelves which contain the rare collection of manuscripts from the crusaders’ timeline. Some of the other treasures of this library include the 300, 000 books which serve as an archive for Maltese literature.

The National Library of Malta also holds many exhibitions in order to elucidate the historical events of Malta as well as to showcase the works of various famous authors. Exciting 3D exhibitions are also held here from time to time. The library serves as an excellent resource for those with an urge to explore history from the medieval period to the digital era.
