National Botanical Gardens

Lovers of nature or not, meet the garden of your dreams – National Botanical Gardens at Victoria, Seychelles.

One of the most stunning botanical gardens of the world, the National Botanical Gardens has continually been a highlight of the trip for those who venture to Seychelles. Upon entry, be greeted by the coco de mer! Walk through the pavement lined with these plants, bearing the largest nut in the world. It almost feels as if you are walking on a red carpet, albeit amidst nature, which is actually even better!

Easily identifiable by the numerous smells of spices, the spice grove and fruits are just around the corner. Home to vanilla, nutmeg, and even exotic fruits such as the notoriously pungent smelling durian and “hairy” rambutan, adults and children alike are sure to be tickled by these intriguing looking fruits and their unique smells. Aside from that, open your eyes and look out for the many endemic species of animals! From turtle doves, Blue Pigeon and even sunbirds, their vibrant colours will no doubt pique your interest. A most novel tree can be found here – the Cannonball tree. Named after the cannonball-shaped fruit it bears, its resemblance does not just stop there. When the fruits fall to the ground, they make a loud noise, reminiscent of an explosion! Be careful as you walk around as many animals roam around, from the giant land tortoise that is hard to miss, and the smaller, adorable terrapins in the terrapin pond. All in all, the National Botanical Gardens is perfect for a day of learning or even just a visual retreat for all ages.
