National Art Museum of China (中國美術館)

A glimpse of China’s extensive history at the National Art Museum of China.

Founded by Mao Zedong in 1958, the National Art Museum of China, with a space that is almost as large as The White House, took over four years to construct. Starting out as an ordinary museum when it was first built, the National Art Museum of China has progressed significantly over the decades, constantly redefining itself and using innovative concepts to stay impressive. With a diversity of architectural themes in a single space, ranging from classical, orthogonal designs to more contemporary, freer forms, the story of Chinese art is told and discovered here. The art museum houses many ancient Chinese artworks such as oil paintings, sculptures and costumes, representing various cultural changes through the eras of China’s extensive history. Apart from local Chinese art, the museum also brings in foreign exhibitions from countries such as France, Italy and Australia.
