National Archeological Museum (Museo Arqueologico Nacional)

Built in 1867, this museum is an excellent place to learn about Spanish archaeology.

Sharing the same building as the National Library, the Museo Arqueologico Nacional (National Archaeological Museum) is an archaeology museum located in the heart of Madrid. Exhibiting artefacts ranging from the Prehistoric to the Renaissance times, this museum has an extensive collection of Spanish archaeology. This includes the Lady of Elche statue, the Sphinx of Agost, and an entire replica of the prehistoric drawings in the Altamira cave! There are also various religious artworks acquired from churches and monasteries housed here. Besides Spanish artefacts, this museum also contains Egyptian, Celtic, Roman, and Greek antiquities, amongst others.
