Commonly known as one of the largest and most remarkable museums in Greece, the National Archaeological Museum in Athens is home to some very impressive artifacts and ancient Greek artwork that surely will not disappoint. Several famous sculptures include the Poseidon of Artemision and one of the few original bronze statues that towers at a startling height of 2.09m but still remains a mystery as to whether it depicts Poseidon or Zeus.

Another mesmerising and well preserved relic would be the statue of thunder-striking Zeus that was originally found in Dodoni, as well as the famed Igesous Column which was originally discovered in Kerameikos. An extremely well curated museum that holds some of Greece’s finest, most valuable art pieces, it is recommended that one follows a guided tour so as to glean a much more sophisticated understanding of Ancient Greece and its legends.
