Designated as one of the four Guardian Mountains of Seoul during the Joseon Dynasty, visit the wondrous park where Naksan stands.
Deriving its interesting name from its resemblance to the hump of a camel, Naksan simply means ‘Camel Mountain’ in Korean. Standing at a height of 100m, Naksan is a solid piece of granite bedrock. Take a pleasant hike uphill and marvel at the Seoul Seonggwak, the fortress wall built as a defence against invaders. The fortress has been a popular spot for filming in various Korean dramas, so if you are lucky, you might even chance upon some stars filming!
Although partially demolished during the Japanese Occupation, Naksan was rebuilt into a park so as to preserve its remaining bits of history. Today, you can opt to have a picnic at the summit while enjoying the scenic view of Seoul. Naksan Park also offers other recreational facilities such as basketball and badminton courts, a pavilion and an exhibition hall. Drop by the nearby Ihwa mural village and see all the intriguing murals by local artists. Relax and revel at the stunning views as you hike downhill in the direction of Hyehwamun.
