Museum Van Loon

An opportunity to experience the grandeur of a bygone era.

Ever wanted to experience life in prior centuries? Or dreamed of being part of a noble family? This restored canal-side house would be just the place for you, as it provides a unique opportunity to enter a private residence that housed the aristocratic Van Loon family in the 19th century. The original museum site was actually built in the 16th century, and served as the house of artist Ferdinand Bol at one point before the descendants of the Van Loon family donated it to the city. Time is frozen in this beautiful museum that will make you feel like you have been transported back in time.

The exterior welcomes you with grand pillars and elegant statues, while the garden displays beautifully kept hedgerows and shrubbery in the style of a maze. You are immediately presented with a vision of stately grandeur sure to take your breath away. Inside the house, the luxurious furnishings and lavish atmosphere continue to amaze. Due to the previous owners’ desire for symmetry in the interior design, the real bedroom doors were painted to match the walls and fake doors were painted to look real. Don’t miss out on this unique museum – a living reminder of the Van Loon culture in Amsterdam!
